Then cover the entire cast iron fry pan with the oven cleaner, and place the pan in a garbage bag and seal so that the cleaner won't dry out, this step will take two to three days for the cleaner to loosen up and remove the old seasoning.

So cast iron pots were made with handles that allowed them to be hung over a fire, or with legs so that they could stand up in the fireplace.
